    I didn’t write this, but I think it demonstrates how easy it is to take control of your own colour correcting. You’ll become a better colourist the sooner you leave those LUT crutches behind…

    Agreed, and I’m glad the article points out the distinction between technical LUTs (aka camera LUTs) and “look” or “creative” LUTs. There is nothing wrong with using a camera manufcturer’s technical LUT to bring your log footage into the Rec 709 colorspace for subsequent grading, and of course it’s standard practice if you don’t use Resolve Color Management or ACES. Even stills photographers use the equivalent of camera LUTs, perhaps without knowing it, when they use their camera’s profile to process raw photos in Capture One or Lightroom. Otherwise they’d have to start with a linear profile (which you can do in Capture One if you like) and create a custom curve.
